Courses and Other Requirements

 

Trainees in the IGERT in GI Science Program will follow the doctoral degree requirements of their home academic department, as well as participate in the GI Science concentration. The GI Science Concentration includes:

Coursework
A core of four core courses that build the intellectual core of the program and provide basic training in research:

  • Introduction to Geographic Information Science (GEO 591)
  • Ontology of the Geographic Domain (PHI 531)
  • Spatial Databases (GEO 595 or CSE 562)
  • Ethics and Professionalism (PHI 640)
  • (Please note that trainees participating in the Certificate Program must also complete a GIScience elective, to be approved by the student's advisor and IGERT program office.)

    Trainees will also be expected to demonstrate familiarity with:

  • Use of GI Systems
  • Individualized  Mentoring
  • Participation in Active Research Programs*
  • International Summer Institutes (1-2 weeks)*
  • Internships (Domestic or International)*
  • Specialized Workshops and Colloquia
  • Dissertation Research in GI Science and Multidisciplinary Doctoral Committees
  • * Not a requirement for Certificate Students
